Formed in 1999, the St Mary’s Medical Centre, Patients
Group followed on from a meeting of patients and professionals
interested in working together to provide the best primary health
care possible. Contrary to belief by many patients we are NOT
a complaints group but work hand in hand with staff and doctors
to raise money for the surgery by either fundraising or receiving
bequests from deceased patients. A good example of this being the
refurbishment of the Car park.
The PPG is open to all patients and members of the Medical Centre.
The work of the PPG is led by a small Committee appointed by members
of the group comprising Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary (who also
edits the Newsletter) and a co-ordinator.
Meetings and Events
Quarterly meetings are held at the Medical Centre at 7.00 p.m.
on the 2nd Wednesday evening of March, June, September and December
(occasionally the date has to be changed but notification of this
is always apparent on the Notice Board in the foyer of the surgery)
and the short Agenda includes :-
A Speaker, usually representing a medical topic from either
in house or external. See attached list of Speakers that have
spoken at our Meetings.
General updates of developments in the Centre including projects
initiated by the PPG.
Information relating to fundraising and social events.
The meetings are conducted in an informal and relaxed atmosphere
allowing everyone present an opportunity to participate and last
approximately and hour and a half.
The work of the Patients
Group has been extremely well supported by patients
and practitioners - particularly the two fundraising events held
each year – the Tombola Stall on the Recreation Ground on
Festival Saturday and our Christmas Raffle.
Anyone registered with the Medical Centre would be welcome at our
quarterly meetings. Information relating to the meetings is displayed
on thePatients
Group Notice Board in the foyer of the Medical Centre and in
the Newsletter which can be found at strategic points throughout
the Medical Centre. Our Secretary, Babs Cornish would be only too
happy to provide any further information and can be contacted on
761306 from 8.30 to 5.00 p.m.
